Group photo at “the Second Reunion of the 43d Battalion, Virginia Cavalry… at Marshall (old Salem), August 14, 1895.” Born: Married: Died: 1861–1865.[3707] From disease, “in service”.[3708] Listed on the election poll in November 1861.[3709] Obituary: Children: Parents and Siblings: Other Family: Stories, Letters & Biographies: CSR: Enlisted 25 April 1861; died in service, from disease. [Earlier version showed present February 1862.] Additional Information: Reference lists both “Smith, J.” and “J. Smith,” neither name with any other remark.[3710] Rather than indicating two distinct people, this duplication was probably in error. Keith’s duplication of these names likely simply echoes the first. [NOTE:chk] ARTICLE— J. Smith AND John P. Smith, out of order.

John Gott: Perhaps John Puller Smith, of Fredericksburg Smiths. A John Puller Smith, 1782–1838, buried Orlean.[3711] See Baird, p. 4 # See William Harrison Triplett for possible connection. No – cavalryman died in service. Still, maybe related. One John Puller Smith sold Triplett the manor house at Orlean. Listed as “S. P. Smith.” Reference was created in May 1861. Sands Smith [BH] did not enlist until October according to his military service record. Therefore, “S. P. Smith,” is thought to be a typo for “J. P. Smith,” i.e., John P. Smith [BH].[3712]
